Three people have died and seven others are admitted at Panyadoli health center IV in Bweyale town council, Kiryandongo district following a suspected Cholera outbreak.
According to Emmanuel Murungi, the district communication officer, the patients are from the refugee settlement and Bweyale town council who presented symptoms similar to those of Cholera which prompted the district to send their samples to the Central Public Laboratory in Kampala on Thursday for tests to establish the cause of their sickness.
Murungi added that the district was yet to get the results of the tests on the samples.
However, Murungi, revealed that as they wait for the results, the district task force has instituted a number of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the district in the area. These among others include banning the selling of food stuffs at the schools in the area where the cases came from and ensuring proper hand washing at the schools.
He added that the public is also being advised to maintain good hygiene in their homes.
The communications officer revealed that the patients are responding well to the medications.
Emmanuel Businge, the acting district health officer confirmed the reports revealing that the deceased were buried on Friday.
Kiryandongo refugee settlement hosts thousands of refugees from the neighboring countries including Sudan, Congo, and Kenya among others.
