The police flying squad in the Albertine region has recovered fourteen stolen cows and arrested two suspects.  The cows were recovered from the Kyarwabuyamba cell in Hoima East division.
The suspects have been identified as Ronald Katooto 35, a resident of Nabiswera village in Nakasongola district and Godwin Tayebwa 38, a resident of Kyankwanzi district.
Information obtained from the police indicates that the two suspects have been stealing cattle from Savannah, Wamala and Albertine regions. They had established a kraal in Kyarwabuyamba in Hoima City where they would keep the suspected stolen animals.
Police received information that some suspected stolen animals were being kept in Kyarwabuyamba.
A team of flying squad detectives was immediately dispatched to the area and managed to recover fourteen cows from the kraal.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the recovery of the cows and detention of the two suspects.
He says some of the recovered cows were stolen from Nakaseke, Kyankwanzi and Nakasongola districts and transported to Hoima City adding that their owners have identified them.
He says the suspects have been on police’s wanted list for long in Wamala, Albertine and Savannah regions stating that, currently they are being detained at the Hoima city central police station.
Hakiza says the two suspects have been liaising with their counterparts in the districts of Kyankwanzi, Luwero, Nakasongola and Kampala to sell off suspected stolen cows.
In July 2024, the Flying Squad in the Albertine Region recovered eight stolen cows and arrested one suspect in Masindi. The cows were recovered from Kijunjubwa village in Kimengo Sub County in Masindi district.
This was after thugs raided the home of a cattle farmer only identified as Koozo of Kijunjubwa village in Masindi and made off with his nine cows.
The case was reported to Masindi police and immediately, a team of flying squad detectives was dispatched to the area.
The detectives managed to recover eight cows out of the nine that had been stolen.
