Police in Kagadi are investigating the malicious damage of property that occurred in the wee hours of Thursday at Busugubwa village, Ruteete town council in Kagadi district.
The incident happened at around 12:50 a.m. when believers of Owobusobozi Bisaka and army officers were returning from prayers in Ruteete town.
Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson disclosed that, when believers of Bisaka arrived at Busugubwa trading centre, they found a Christmas celebration underway, with revelers enjoying music and dancing.
Hakiiza says, however, some individuals from the gathering started throwing stones at the convoy, damaging the windshields of two vehicles namely; a Toyota Haice with registration number UBN 734 C and a Toyota Wish vehicle with registration number UBJ 718 C.
In response, the army officers arrested 16 suspects and fired 17 bullets to disperse the crowd according to the regional police spokesperson.
The incident was reported at Kagadi Police Station and the District Police Commander (DPC) SP Kenneth Ampurira and his team responded to the incident to calm the situation.
The 16 suspects are currently in police custody at Kagadi central police station pending interrogation.
