Police in Kagadi have successfully recovered a firearm that was stolen from a private security guard in Hoima City.
The gun, a model 303 with registration number UGPOL 1118076134, was recovered on Friday at approximately 8:15 p.m.
The theft occurred last month when a group of masked thugs raided the Nile Agro Depot in Kiryatete, Hoima City.
The attackers confronted security guard Phelix Ebong, who was stationed at the depot under Express Security Company Limited and forcibly took his gun before fleeing the scene.
According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, the stolen firearm was later used in an attempted robbery in Kagadi Town.
The thieves targeted Emmanuel Kyaligonza’s home on Friday night, holding him at gunpoint and demanding money.
However, Kyaligonza managed to overpower the assailants and seized the gun from them, prompting the thieves to flee and abandon the weapon.
“We are still working on identifying the suspects. Both during the robbery in Hoima and in Kagadi, the thugs wore masks, making it difficult to capture clear images of them,” Hakiza said.
Police are currently investigating the matter and making efforts to apprehend the criminals.
