Hoima High Court has Okayed the interim cabinet recently appointed by the Chief Prince (Okwir) in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom to take possession of offices and conduct the administrative duties.

In a consent judgment delivered on December 16, 2024 and signed by the Assistant registrar, the court has ordered and decreed that the interim prime minister and interim cabinet ministers appointed in September 2024 are obliged to take possession of the offices.

According to the court documents seen by our reporter, the judgment has been determined with consent of the plaintiff -Denis Asiimwe, a concerned Kingdom subject and the 1st respondent who is the chief prince Mugenyi Fred Ruchunya.

It should be noted that Denis Asiimwe recently dragged to court three kingdom officials challenging the basis in which the interim prime minister and cabinet of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom were appointed without proof of incapacitation of the reigning king.

The three kingdom officials are the Chief Prince Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya, the Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaaga and the Chairperson of the Royal Commission Fred Kabagambe Kaliisa.

However, in a consent judgment delivered yesterday, court says the chief prince Okwir acted lawfully in appointing interim prime minister and cabinet of the kingdom.

“The plaintiff acknowledges the fact that, the 1st Defendant was appointed by Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru 1 as the Okwir (Chief Prince) vested with powers to perform administrative functions in the event the King is incapacitated”, reads part of the court document.
