The Christmas season is often associated with joy, togetherness, and warmth for many, but for orphaned children, it brings a starkly different reality, one of immense struggle and hardship. These vulnerable children, lacking the comfort of a stable home or family support, face harsh conditions that put their health, safety, and overall well-being at risk. The absence of adequate shelter, warm clothing, and nutritious food leaves them particularly exposed to the unforgiving cold, making each night a daunting battle for survival.

However, at MIK Orphanage Foundation, a home for over 80 orphaned and vulnerable children the situation is much different.

The orphanage located in Kyarwiru Cell, Hoima East City Division on Sunday marked its 10th anniversary with pomp and excitement as the children received over 40 mattresses, biscuits, posho rice, beans, sugar and blankets among other goodies courtesy of WQS Recruitment Services Limited/Q-Sourcing Servetec, a laour recruiting firm committed to uplifting the community.

Iain Porter, the Expert Management Officer from Q- Sourcing Uganda says the initiative is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that aims to contribute not only to the physical health of the children but also to their emotional well-being, fostering a positive and supportive environment within orphanages.

Rogers Bukenya, the Head of Business Development, at a Joint Venture of Q-Sourcing Servitec and World-Wide Recruitment solutions says the donation aims to ensure that children under the care and custody of MIK Orphanage Foundation have a better well-being and development. He adds that the initiative aims to provide comfort and support to children who have faced significant hardships.

The smiles and gratitude from the children upon receiving these mattresses served as a powerful reminder of the impact that such charitable acts can have on young lives.

A comfortable mattress promotes better sleep quality, which is crucial for cognitive function and overall health. Children who sleep on supportive mattresses experience fewer disturbances during the night, leading to deeper, restorative sleep. This improvement helps them wake up refreshed and mentally prepared for school, enhancing their ability to concentrate and absorb information throughout the day.
