The Magistrate Court in Luwero town council has remanded a cook at Bukalasa Agricultural College accused of defiling and impregnating his daughter. Joseph Bbosa, a resident of Kayunga village in Nyimbwa Sub-county Luwero district was arrested last week after his 17-year-old daughter and a senior two student accused him of defiling her.

Bbosa was arrested after the school headteacher of the victim reported the matter to Ndejje Police Station. The victim informed the headteacher that the father had been sexually abusing her and that he impregnated her before ordering her to abort. Bbosa allegedly threatened to deny her school fees. On Tuesday, Bbosa was presented before Luwero Grade One Magistrate Franca Atto Okello where charges of defilement contrary to section 116 (4) (C) of the penal code were read to him.

According to the Prosecution led by Sandra Nakire, Bbosa performed sexual acts with his daughter between 2021 to 2024 at his home located at Kayunga village in Luwero district. The Magistrate didn’t allow the suspect to plead to the charges since his court lacks jurisdiction to try capital offenses.

He remanded him to Butuntumula Prisons till 18th December 2024 when he will return for mention of his case. The victim has since been transferred to Child Care Home pending disposal of the case.

Luwero is ranked among the districts with the highest cases of defilement across the Country. According to the Luwero District Police crime report, at least 56 girls have been defiled from August to October 2024.  At least 99 cases of aggravated defilement were reported in the year 2023 and the district ranked second with the highest cases across the country.
