The health department in Masindi district has created two mpox treatment centers at Bwijanga Health Centre IV and Masindi general hospital.
This was disclosed by Muddu Michael, the district senior health educator, while addressing the media at the DHO’s office on Wednesday.
Muddu explained the health center III’s will be holding mpox patients, monitoring their situation before being transferred to the above treatment centers for further management. He added that currently they don’t have patients in the treatment centers.
He advised the public to be cautious while handling suspected mpox patients by using protective gear like gloves or wash and iron clothes for the patients.
Muddu asserts that they have started sensitization and screening of people with skin rashes both in schools and health centers, mostly at the Out-Patient Department.
Muddu says that currently they are managing four cases and monitoring twelve contacts of a woman who succumbed to the disease recently.
He stressed that apparently they don’t have treatment for mpox, but they treat symbolic symptoms.
He appeals to the community to embrace vaccination against mpox when the exercise will be rolled out in the country, stating that the vaccine will not have negative effects on the body.
