The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is set to hold a community baraza in Hoima City, aiming to enhance public engagement and awareness regarding legal rights and judicial processes. This initiative is part of the JSC’s broader mandate to educate citizens about the law and promote good governance.
The community baraza which will run for four days from November 5-8, 2024 will be held at Hoima Booma Grounds.
According to JSC officials, the baraza will offer a platform to inform citizens about their legal rights, responsibilities, and the workings of the judicial system as well as provide a platform for community members to voice their concerns and suggestions regarding local judicial services.
By facilitating direct dialogue between the JSC and the public, the baraza will also empower citizens to claim their rights and understand the mechanisms available for seeking justice, the citizens will also be able to air concerns regarding corruption in the judicial system and also hear about the commission’s strategy to combat the vice.
Officials from the DPP, police, court officials among others will be available to respond to concerns from the community members during the baraza.
The Judicial Service Commission is a Constitutional body established under Article 146 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, whose mandate is to recruit judicial officers and regulate their conduct.
