Unknown assailants have attacked Birongo village in Matale sub-county, Kibaale District, resulting in the brutal death of Colodhine Mukamulenzi, 50. The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 2 a.m. when the attackers forcibly entered Mukamulenzi’s home.

They repeatedly hacked her with a machete, striking her head, face, and neck. She was found lying in a pool of blood inside her house. Mukamulenzi’s 5-year-old daughter, who was present at the time of the attack, managed to escape and alert the neighbors.

John Kasangaki, a neighbor, expressed shock at discovering her body and urged police to investigate the incident, citing growing fear among the residents following this gruesome murder. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed that investigations have already begun, with detectives working to trace the assailants.

Police have transported the body to the Kibaale Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem, which revealed that Mukamulenzi died due to excessive bleeding. The body was later handed over to her relatives. In a separate incident, an angry mob in Kikuube District lynched Charles Balyesiima, 60, a businessman from Kiryawenju village in Kagadi District.

The mob accused him of involvement in a spate of motorcycle thefts in the area. On Sunday evening, residents spotted Balyesiima riding a new Bajaj motorcycle, suspecting it was stolen. They chased him to his home near Kabwoya Trading Center, where they found several motorcycle number plates, leading the mob to beat him to death.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Police Spokesperson confirmed that the police arrived too late to save Balyesiima’s life. His body was transported to the Kikuube Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem.
