Uganda AIDS Commission Investigates Alleged Discrimination of People Living with HIV at Hoima Stadium

Uganda Aids Commission has embarked on an investigation into the alleged discrimination of people living with HIV by contractors of Hoima.

This comes after media reports showed contractors at the stadium are forcing workers to take HIV tests and those found positive are fired.

According to the statement released by the commission they say such cases at workplaces can never be accepted and amounts to discrimination of people living with HIV.

“In the meantime, Uganda AIDS Commission is investigating the matter and assures Ugandans, including people living with HIV, that being HIV positive is not a crime and that it is illegal to deny a person an opportunity to work based on their HIV status”, the statement added.

Recently, John Aheebwa, the Human Resource Manager of M/S Summa construction company who were contracted to construct the stadium denied the allegations of mistreatment and discrimination.

The national policy guidelines on ending HIV Stigma and discrimination state that a person living with HIV shall enjoy the right to work based on their HIV status.
