Gender Ministry Investigates Alleged Mistreatment, Discrimination at Hoima Multi-Purpose Stadium

The Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development has commenced its investigations into the alleged mistreatment, unfair dismissal, and discrimination at the Hoima City multi-purpose stadium construction site.

This has been disclosed by Badru Mugabi, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner during an interview with Spice FM, stating that a commissioner from the Ministry of Gender has visited the site following numerous complaints from workers and the public

Regarding concerns about soil and dust from construction trucks damaging city roads, Mugabi noted that an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) was conducted by the national environment management authority (NEMA), and as city leaders, they are closely monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, Uganda Aids Commission has also embarked on an investigation into alleged discrimination of people living with HIV by contractors of Hoima.

According to the statement released by the commission on Wednesday, such cases at workplaces can never be accepted and amounts to discrimination of people living with HIV.

“In the meantime, Uganda AIDS Commission is investigating the matter and assures Ugandans, including people living with HIV, that being HIV positive is not a crime and that it is illegal to deny a person an opportunity to work based on their HIV status”, the statement added.

The 152 billion Uganda shillings construction project, undertaken by a Turkish company M/S SUMMA, is a key part of Uganda’s preparations to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
