A suspected chicken thief has been lynched by a mob in Kasaasa Cell, Hoima West Division in Hoima City. The deceased has been identified as William Tukasingura in his late 30s a resident of the same area.
Hell broke loose at around 2am on Wednesday morning when the deceased raided one of the homes in the area with an intent of stealing chicken.
According to John Mukuru, the secretary for defense in the area, when the owners of the home heard the suspected thief break into the chicken house, they made an alarm, which forced the suspect to drop a panga, an iron bar, a sack and a bunch of yellow bananas he had in his possession.
He adds that unidentified residents mobilized themselves to chase after him until he was caught from the area leading to his severe beating which resulted to his death.
He condemns acts of increasing theft in the area, adding that, residents are working hard to set up several income generating projects, only for thieves and other criminals to steal them and keep them in losses amidst school fees needs among others.
He asks security and other stakeholders to reign in, to prevent this vice from further escalating in the area.
Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirms the incident adding that detectives from Hoima West division have picked the body of the deceased and taken it to Hoima city mortuary for postmortem.
