The newly promoted Uganda Police Football Club is still searching for its first win in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, after a third consecutive draw.
On Tuesday, the Cops were held to a 1-1 draw by Soltilo Bright Stars FC at the Kavumba Recreation Center, marking their third stalemate this season. Previous draws against BUL FC and Mbarara FC mean that Police FC has collected just three points from a possible nine.
In action at Kavumba, Police FC took the lead in the 34th minute when forward Isaac “Falcao” Ogwang scored after being set up by Dennis Kalanzi. The team managed to hold onto their lead until halftime.
However, in the 71st minute, Soltilo Bright Stars equalized through Noordin Bunjo. Bunjo seized the opportunity after the Police goalkeeper’s save from an Ashraf Mulindi shot rebounded, allowing him to find the back of the net.
Police’s troubles worsened in the 82nd minute when Allan Bukenya was sent off for a second yellow card, leaving the team with ten men. This marked Police FC’s second red card of the season, with Gerald Ogwet receiving the first in their opening match against BUL FC.
Despite the frustrating result, Police FC’s head coach, Simon Peter Mugerwa, remained optimistic about the team’s defensive performance.
“We are defending well as a team because we have kept two clean sheets and now this one is all draw, the unlucky beat is that we have got two red cards, we just need to work on our discipline when we do not have the ball,” Mugerwa told the press.
Bright Stars FC has also endured a rough start to the season. This draw, coupled with an earlier draw and a loss to URA FC, leaves them with just two points from three games. Bright Stars’ head coach, Joseph Mutyaba, despite the slow start, expressed confidence in his team’s playing style and overall performance.
The draw leaves Police FC in 11th place with 3 points, while Soltilo Bright Stars sit in 13th place with 2 points. Police FC will next face Kitara FC on Thursday, while Soltilo Bright Stars will play KCCA FC at Lugogo on Tuesday.
