A forceful eviction has left over 53 families in Kakoora village Bugana Sub County Buliisa District homeless, with their properties and crops destroyed, and their homes set ablaze, leaving them as squatters and beggars.

During a Tuesday village meeting where Songi Wamara [the accused] was absent, residents and other leaders accused him of forceful eviction and destruction of their properties, in defiance of a court order over a contested piece of land measuring 40 hectares.

Precious Giramia one of the evictees, revealed that she was brutally whisked away by Songi’s mercenaries, with her house burnt, and her crops destroyed.

Baraza Terensio, 80, noted that he had spent 36 years on his land with his grandchildren but was deeply hurt as the entire village was brought to unrest by one person.

Allan Atugonza, the Buliisa County Member of Parliament, noted that this eviction was illegal.

The legislator warned Songi against further evictions and vowed to follow up on the case.

He also purchased land for the homeless evictees to stay temporarily while they look for other options.
