Leaders and the business community in Bugangaizi East have held a consultative meeting proposing the creation of Kisiita District.

The meeting, which was held on Sunday at Bapapa Gardens in Kisiita town council, aimed at facilitating consultations and forming a committee to advocate for this initiative.

According to Micheal Alindwamukama, the committee chairperson, the proposed Kisiita District meets all the requirements outlined in the Local Government Act. Alindwamukama states that Bugangaizi East has a population of nearly 260,000 people, while the required minimum number by the Local Government Act is 5,000.

He asks the proponents to set aside politics, as such issues may hinder progress.

Assistant Kakumiro RDC Emmy Tutamurugaho calls for cooperation from the sub-county chairpersons and their councilors, encouraging them to start by making recommendations to achieve this goal.

Additionally, Hon. Grace Bataringaya, the vice chairperson of Kakumiro District, has pledged to fully support the initiative by tabling the motion in the district council.

Meanwhile, the populace of Bugangaizi East welcomes the proposal, stating that the new district will enhance social services, including tarmacked roads, improved health services, schools, and the creation of employment opportunities, among others.

Article 179 of the 1995 Constitution allows for the creation of new districts based on effective administration and the need to bring services closer to the people.
