Residents of Kirima cell in Karujubu division, Masindi district, have been left in shock after discovering the decomposing body of their own buried in a pit latrine belonging to a resident in the area.
The deceased is Linus Mugisa, 28 years old, whose body was found in William Twesige’s pit latrine.
Chelesto Akuyo, the LC1 chairperson Kirima cell, says Mugisa went missing from the area on August 30, 2024, after working in Twesige’s garden.
Akuyo adds that the family of the deceased reported a case of a missing person at Masindi Police Station and continued with the search in different areas but in vain.
The chairperson revealed that later rumors started circulating around the cell that Mugisa had been beaten to death by William Twesige with the help of siblings after catching him with allegedly stolen agricultural chemicals that they had given to him to spray their garden.
Akuyo adds that acting on suspicion, the residents this morning stormed Twesige’s home and uncovered his pit latrine, only to find there Linus’s decomposing body before he alerted police.
Solomon Asiimwe, the LC3 chairperson of Karujubu division, confirmed the incident, revealing that the police that rushed to the scene first dispersed the angry residents who were demolishing Twesige’s home and that of his parents located in the same cell.
By press time, police had retrieved the body and taken it to Masindi Main Hospital for a post-mortem.
The District Police Commander Jacob Chepskor confirmed the reports, saying he had dispatched a team of officers to the scene.
