Police in Hoima District have arrested Kasigwa Rasto, the Nyakabingo parish chief of Buseruka Sub County, on allegations of defrauding a parent of two million shillings in pretext of find a job for his son.
Rasto reportedly promised Julius Christmas Karusigalira, that he could secure a job for his son, a recent agriculture graduate, using his influence with the Hoima District Service Commission.
Karusigalira stated that Rasto initially requested six million shillings but only managed to pay two million before realizing he had been scammed.
His suspicions grew when he read a public notice at Hoima District headquarters in Kasingo warning parents about conmen soliciting money for job placements.
After discovering the warning, Karusigalira approached Hoima District Chairman Uthuman Kadiri Mubarakh, who contacted Rasto. During this conversation, Rasto admitted to taking money from Karusigalira and promised to return it, but he has failedefrau which prompted him to report the matter to police.
He further cautioned parents to be aware of conmen targeting desperate individuals seeking jobs for their children.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest adding that investigations into the matter are underway.
