A section of workers engaged in the construction works at the proposed Hoima Multipurpose stadium have raised allegations of exploitation and mistreatment.

According to workers who spoke to Spice FM on condition of anonymity, say a number of workers at the site have been subjected to poor working conditions, including lack of safety equipment, meals, medical coverage, and transportation among others.

The workers mostly local ones also claim that they are receiving significantly lower wages compared to their counterparts picked from other areas with some of them believed to be coming from outside of Uganda

Sunday Byenkya, an opinion leader and a team leader of the Kangabaijje pressure group in the city said they have heard about the allegations several times with the alleged mistreatment levied on the workers especially local ones.

He says their attempts to reach out to the authorities at the site to get details were unsuccessful since they were denied entry.

Summa Construction Company’s Human resource officer Joseph Aheebwa has however denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, the Hoima City Mayor Brian Kaboyo has promised to investigate the allegations saying he has no clear information at the moment.
