Police in Kibaale district are investigating circumstances under which a suspect committed suicide in the police cell of Kabasekende police post.
Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine region police spokesperson says the deceased is identified as Peter Musinguzi aged 30 years, a resident of Kigoro village, Kabasekende parish, Kabasekende Sub County in Kibaale district.
According to Hakiza, it is alleged on July 27, 2024, one man identified as Ziah Bwambale contacted Musinguzi now deceased, to help take cash worth Sh2.5 million to one lady identified as Jude but instead disappeared with the money and went into hiding in Kiboga district.
Hakiza says Bwambale contacted the deceased through his known contact number which remained unavailable until when the suspect was caught from his hiding in Kiboga by police officers from Kabasekende and detained at Kabasekende police cell where he hanged himself to death using his shirt on the night of September 14.
Hakiza says a post-mortem report was conducted and the deceased’s body handed over to relatives for burial.
