Schools in Hoima Register Low Turn Up on First Day of Term Three.

Schools in Hoima city and Hoima district registered a low turn up of learners on the first day as schools reopened for third term of the school calendar on Monday September 16, 2024.

Our reporter on Monday visited a number of schools in the city and the district to ascertain how pupils and students reported to school for third term with most schools reporting a low turn up and it was discovered that most students both primary and secondary Schools are still at home.

At Sir. Tito Winyi Secondary School in Bulindi Town Council, Hoima district, 720 pupils’ ended second term successfully by only 442 students managed to turn up according to Allan Tusiime the institution’s head teacher. He disclosed that mostly day students have not turned up.

At Hoima Public Primary School in Hoima City, a quarter of the enrolment turned up on the first day. According to Harriet Karungi Basemera the head teacher said only 565 students turned up out of 1731 on the first day adding that over 1000 students are still at home.

At Premier Secondary School, 810 students turned up out of 1184 students according to Frank Murungi the Deputy Head teacher.

At Central Secondary School, 50% of the students turned up according to Isaiah Atugonza the school head teacher.

School heads are calling upon students to send their children to school in time so that they catch up with others.

Caroline Nyamahunge the Hoima City inspector of Schools is calling upon parents to send their Children to Schools even though they don’t have all the requirements ready but also urging School directors to be lenient to parents who will have not paid fully so that students can report to School.
