Hoima district council has on Thursday approved the elevation of Kitoba Sub County to a town council status.

In an extraordinary meeting held this afternoon at the current district headquarters in Kasingo cell, Hoima West Division, Hoima City, the Hoima District Council unanimously approved the elevation of Kitoba Sub County into a town council to pave way for the relocation of the district headquarters from Kasingo to Birungu parish, in the district.

The motion was moved by the Leader of Government Business Hellen Mulumba basing on the guidance by Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi who recently visited Hoima. The minister stated that the district cannot establish a new administrative unit but can only upgrade the existing one.

The Hoima district secretary for social services Hillary Tumusime expressed support for the motion, emphasizing that the district needs a central location, which can only be achieved through a town council.

However, Jackson Mulindambura, the coouncillor for Kiganja and Everce Kyalisiima the female district councillor for Kiganja and Kigorobya raised concerns over the sub county’s large size, which may lead to uneven development in other areas.

The Kitoba sub county chairperson Erisa Kaliisa and Uthman Mugisha, the Hoima district Chairman LCV say the upgrade will enable proper service delivery.
