BKK Subject Sues Three Officials Over Kingdom Administration Crisis.

Denis Asiimwe a concerned subject of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has sued three officials of the Kingdom at Hoima High Court over several issues surrounding the leadership and administration of the kingdom affairs.

The three sued kingdom officials are Prince Mugenyi Fred Ruchunya who is the Chief Prince (Okwiir), Andrew Byakutaaga who is the Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa) and Kabagambe Kaliisa, the chairman royal commission (Ow’akatebe Kobunanu).

According to the civil suit no C5-038 of 2024 filled in the High court of Hoima Holden at Hoima on Thursday September 5, 2024, the plaintiff’s wants the court to arrive at a number of issues.

The issues include a declaration that the defendant’s appointment of new cabinet ministers is unlawful, null and void, a declaration that the defendants are trespassers on the Kings Prerogative powers to appoint cabinet ministers.

The plaintiff seeks an order restraining the defendants from making any further appointments of cabinet ministers unless in accordance with the constitution of the republic of Uganda and the kingdom’s laws and customs.

He also wants an injunction compelling the defendants to reverse any appointments made in contravention of the law. He also wants an order compelling the defendants to provide accountability for the kingdom assets sold off under the pretense of the Kings health condition.

According to the copy of the suit, the cause of action arose due to the fact that Bunyoro Kitara kingdom is a traditional institution recognized under the constitution of Uganda and operate under the specific laws and customs that govern the appointment of the cabinet ministers.
