Arise and Proper Primary School has been closed after the wall of the classroom block collapsed and killed a teacher. The deceased teacher has been identified as Bridget Alinaitwe 30, a resident of Marongo cell in Buliima Town Council, Masindi district.

Alinaitwe was teaching when the classroom structure collapsed during a heavy downpour. Although she was rushed for treatment at Masindi Kitara Kijunjubwa Medical Center, she died on arrival.

Six pupils were also injured and rushed to Masindi Kitara Kijunjubwa Medical Center where they are currently admitted.

Monica Kiiza, the Acting Masindi District Education Officer (DEO), says that they decided to temporarily close the school after noticing several gaps including dilapidated structures at the school that need to be fixed before they reopen.

Kiiza attributed the incident to the heavy downpour and weak classroom structures.

Sanon Dhaala, the Masindi Deputy Resident District Commissioner believes the structure could have collapsed since it was incomplete, adding that they have launched investigations to establish what could have happened.

Dhaala warned school proprietors against dilapidated structures which expose learners to risks.

Moses Nayebale, the school director explained that the structure was being used as a store, an allegation, the district officials have refuted.

Arnold Atugonza, the administrator of Masindi Kitara Kijunjubwa Medical Center says, the admitted pupils are responding to treatment.
