Five Staff Arrested Over Missing Masindi Seed School Computers

Police in Masindi district are investigating the circumstances under which thugs stole 16 computers from Budongo Seed Secondary School in Nyantonzi Sub County.

Gordon Kigongo, the school head teacher, told our reporter that the thugs accessed the school premises in the wee hours of Wednesday morning and made away with 16 pieces of computers out of 28 that were procured by the government.

He stressed that the computers have been stolen at a critical time when candidate classes are preparing to sit for their mock examinations.

Sunday Eyotu, the LC3 Chairperson for Nyantonzi Sub County, said they were planting to install a second camera on top of the one they have and employ another security guard purposely to man the ICT block, but unfortunately computers have been stolen from implementation.

He stressed that this will affect learners in their ICT lessons.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, said that they have arrested five staff members, including two lab attendants, a security guard, and two teachers who gave out the keys to the security guard.

Hakiza said the charges of theft and negligence of duty have been preferred against them. The suspects are currently detained at Masindi Central Police Station.

Currently, Budongo Seed Secondary School has an enrollment of 467 learners.
