Five suspected cattle thieves have been arrested in Kyankwanzi District. They are Vincent Oneno Ssegawa, Fred Kenge, Ronald Ssebunya, Farouk Kaguliira, and one identified only as Kalyango alias Younger.
They were arrested on Wednesday during an operation conducted by the police and other sister security agencies after several complaints from cattle farmers in the district.
Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Region police spokesperson said that the thugs have long been on the wanted list of the police for allegedly terrorizing cattle farmers in Kyankwanzi district.
Kawala says police have also impounded a Toyota Prado vehicle that the thugs were using in the execution of their mission.
According to Kawala, some of the arrested cattle thieves have been in and out of detention facilities for stealing animals in the district stating that one of the suspects identified as Kaguliire had just been released from Masindi government prison after serving three years for alleged cattle theft.
She stated that the hunt for other cattle thieves who have been conniving with the suspects is ongoing.
