The Chairperson LC III for Mwitanzige Sub County in Kakumiro district, Max Ompeire, has been violently arrested by the community over allegations of assaulting a woman.
It is alleged that while in Mwitanzige trading center on Saturday evening, Chairman Ompeire attacked and assaulted Medius Kansiime for reasons yet to be identified.
Speaking to Spice FM, Kansiime’s uncle, Rauben Twinomugisha, said his niece, who hails from Kyegegwa, had come for the burial of their relative in Mwitanzige.
He adds that later, Kansiime got a phone call, and as she tried to find a quiet spot to talk on the phone, Max came and asked why she was in that place, then assaulted her mercilessly.
Twinomugisha says that Kansiime was critically injured and was rushed to the Medical Centre Clinic in Mwitanzige, where she is currently admitted.
In the aftermath, an assault case was reported at Mwitanzige Police Station, but when officers tried to engage Max on Sunday, he allegedly turned defiant and resisted arrest, prompting community members to arrest him violently. He was immediately transferred to Kakumiro Central Police Station.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson LC II for Mwitanzige parish, Silverio Twesigye Bategana, condemns Max’s action of obstructing the law by resisting police arrest.
