Three people have died in an accident in Kagadi district. The accident occurred on Thursday at Nakulabye cell in the Kagadi town council.
The accident also left two other people critically injured.
The accident involved two motor vehicles registration numbers UBJ 213C Fuso lorry and UBK 227U Mitsubishi canter in a head-on collision killing both drivers and a passenger on the spot.
The deceased persons have been identified as Businge Tumusiime 32, a driver of motor vehicle registration number UBK 227U and a resident of Kigoye cell, Kyenzige sub-county, Kagadi district, Joseph Mwesigwa 32, the driver of motor vehicle registration number UBJ 213C who is a resident of Kataara village in Kyenjojo district and Patrick Katwesige 24, a resident of Mayisagwe cell in Kyenzige sub-county in Kagadi who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi canter lorry.
The injured are; Nicholas Mulindwa 19, a resident of Kigongwa cell in Kyenzige sub-county in Kagadi district, and Nicholas Kayemba 30, a resident of Kigoya cell in Kagadi district.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says preliminary investigations indicate that one of the drivers, Tumusiime, was under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.
Hakiza says before the accident, Tumusiime was drinking in one of the bars in Kagadi with his colleagues.
The deceased’s bodies have been picked and conveyed to the Kagadi general hospital where they are currently lying pending postmortem while the injured were rushed to Kakibogo medical center for treatment.
