Shock engulfed residents and leaders in Kagadi after a woman in her 20’s faked the death of her one year and seven month’s old male child to attract financial support from the toddler’s father.

The woman has been identified as Noeline Kusemererwa parted ways with her husband a month ago and now lives a single life in Karuguuza town council in Kibaale district.

Her ex-husband is Amman Rwampande, a welder working in Kagadi industrial area in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district.

Speaking to authorities at Kagadi community hall in Kagadi town council, Rwampande said he has been sending money for clearing medical bills for his alleged sick child.

Rwampande asserts that on Tuesday morning, he received a call from his ex-wife that their child had breathed his last at Emesco Health center IV in Kibaale district.

He says he mobilized his friends and went to Emesco Health center (IV) mortuary to pick the body of the child only to find out that the mother had faked the baby’s death.

In response, the ex-wife Kusemererwa said her husband had spent a long time without sending medical support for the child and not providing general care to his abandoned family.

She argued that the only way to get some financial support from the man was by faking the child’s death.

Meanwhile, the Kagadi district probation officer Steven Banakora in collaboration with the Kagadi police community liaisons officer James Mbabazi, Naume Nalwanga the officer-in-charge family and child protection unit at Kagadi CPS, and the mayor Muhorro Town Council Godfrey Nangonza engaged in a meeting with the couple and relatives of both parties and later resolved the family conflict.

The leaders urged the couple to reconcile and forgive one other.

They have however resolved that the Rwampande looks after the child.

The authorities have also warned Kusemererwa against faking her child’s death again, asserting that it may attract legal consequences.
