A man in Kagadi Sub-County, Kagadi district on Sunday evening survived being lynched by angry residents on accusations of being a cannibal and practicing witchcraft.

Angry residents of Nyakateke village in Kanyangoma parish, Kagadi Sub- County armed with sticks and stones lynched Edward Byaruhanga to near death until he was rescued by Isunga Police who took him to their cells for safe custody.

Residents claim that Byaruhanga has been causing the death of several people and exhuming dead bodies in the area.

They further accuse Byaruhanga for purportedly causing mysterious death in their area, including the recent demise of his 11-year-old biological daughter Rosemary Nabukalu who died after a short illness.

Felister Muhumuza the wife to the accused testified against her husband revealing that when their daughter fell sick, the accused didn’t make any interventions to take her for medication.

She adds that to their shock, on Saturday late evening at around 8:13 pm, Byaruhanga was arrested in the maize garden with a bottle containing small stones, polythane bags and other strange witchcraft materials, which created suspicion among residents and began suspecting him to be involved in witchcraft practices.

Meanwhile, the Nyakateke Lci chairman Joseph Byabasaija condemned the witch craft and cannibalism practices that have become rampant in his area, asking the cannibals to reform.

He however cautioned residents against taking laws into their hands, urging them to always report such cases to authorities for further management.
