The Uganda Cancer Institute has expressed dismay over the increase in number of cancer patients who re in advanced stages.

Richard Ekwan, the public specialist says every day at Uganda Cancer Institute more than 50 cancer patients are diagnosed. He says there is an increase in cancer deaths in the country.

Ekwan says most of the cancer patients come to seek for treatment when the disease is now in advanced stages.

He adds that out of 100 people who seek medical attention at Uganda Cancer Institute, 40 to 50 patients are diagnosed with cervical, breast or prostate cancer.

He made the remarks during the opening of a two days free medical camp organized by Lions Club of Hoima Albertine held at Kigorobya health center IV. The health camp is part of the activities to mark the glaucoma week.

John Mary says glaucoma is a hereditary disease which is very dangerous and causes  blindness.

David Karubanga, the MP for Kigorobya county cautioned the public against poor eating habits, consuming sugar and urged them to do regular exercises to avoid diseases.

People who came to seek for medical services thanked lion’s club Hoima Albertine for extending services near to them and also helping those who have no money to go to hospital to get such services.
