Police in Hoima City have recovered a stolen vehicle after it was abandoned by thugs.
The car registration number UBD 763A super custom was reportedly stolen from Lusaka cell in Hoima city on Tuesday. It was recovered on Wednesday morning at around 5 a.m.
Andrea Kirungi, the car owner told Uganda Radio Network-URN in an interview that on Tuesday, he parked his car outside his gate at around 11 p.m. but when he woke up at 3 a.m., he found the car was missing. He immediately reported the matter at Hoima city central police station.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson explains that a team of flying squad operatives was dispatched and started tracking the vehicle since it had a tracking device.
According to Hakiza, on Wednesday at around 5 a.m., the car was located parked in Buhanika village in Hoima East division.
However, the thugs made off with a passport, driving permit and an ATM card belonging to Kirungi.
He says the hunt for the suspects is ongoing, appealing to the public to cooperate with security by providing crucial information that could lead to the arrest and detention of the culprits.
This is not the first time cars have been stolen in the Albertine.
In May 2022, thugs raided Bujwahya cell in Hoima West division and stole a vehicle registration number UAK 003K Premio. The car belonged to Wandera Murungi.
According to Murungi, he then parked his vehicle in his compound but when he woke up in the morning, he found the vehicle missing.
This prompted him to report the case at Hoima City Central police station.
After the case was reported to the police, they immediately dispatched a team of flying squad operatives who started tracking the vehicle.
On May 1, 2022, the stolen vehicle was sighted along the Mpigi-Masaka road.
Police alerted their counterparts in Masaka who swiftly swung into action and intercepted the car in Lukaya village. The vehicle was intercepted with three occupants who were then arrested.
The suspects together with the stolen vehicle were then transferred to Hoima city central police station. The suspects were then arraigned before the court and charged.
