Police in Hoima district are investigating circumstances under which a suspected iron bar thief was shot dead by a security personnel attached to CICO Construction Company in Kigorobya county Hoima district.
Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine Region police spokesperson says on Monday at around 2am at Kihungura village, Kiganja parish in Kigorobya Sub County, Hoima, a one Matinde Wadigali, aged 33 years and resident of Buliisa was shot dead by CICO company security guard.
It is alleged that while at a CICCO construction site in Kigorobya, the security guards received information that they should respond quickly to a vehicle loading iron bars.
Hakiiza explains that the vehicle registration number UAD 123L was moving towards Kiganja road and when security guards told them to stop, they refused hence releasing bullets to the suspected thieves.
Hakiza says one person identified as Isma Bategeka was arrested and is currently detained at Hoima rural CPS.The vehicle used to transport the construction materials was also impounded and taken to Hoima rural CPS.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Hoima city mortuary.
