Residents of Kagadi Sub-County in Kagadi district are counting losses following a heavy hailstorm that destroyed their crop gardens on Sunday evening.

The hailstorm which hit the Sub county destroyed gardens of cassava, sweet potatoes, coffee, and banana plantations. The rains also blew off the roofs of over 15 houses and injured 5 including 2 children.

Electricity poles were also brought down by the heavy winds but did not cause any fatalities.

Residents are now seeking for government intervention worried of looming famine that may hit their area.

Frank Lubega the chairperson local council one for Kenga B village says all the crops that had been planted at the start of the rains were destroyed.

He says that the hailstorm has caused fatalities and residents are homeless since many houses were demolished by the heavy down pour.

The Kagadi Sub-County LC3 chairperson Matia Birungi Nyarwa, says that he has started compiling a report that will be presented to the area Members of Parliament to lobby for relief food from the Office of the Prime Minister.
