World Voices Uganda Country Director, Six Others Wanted for Inciting Violence

The Kagadi District CID Officer has summoned the country director World Voices Uganda Gad Benda Ntegyerize and six others on charges of inciting violence.

Benda is wanted for allegedly mobilizing residnets of Kagadi to take part in protests over the poor state of the Muhorro-Ndaiga road.

The protests staged on February 28, 2024, led to the death of a Boda-Boda cyclist identified as Tuhaise Magezi a cyclist in Muhorro town council who had joined his colleagues to demonstrate over the dilapidated 31km-Muhorro-Ndaiga -Lake Albert road.

During the protests held at Igurika cell along Muhorro-Ndaiga road, Magezi was knocked dead by the double cabin No. UG-6998M belonging to Kagadi Health Department which was had the Kagadi LC5 chairperson Ndibwami Yosia on board.

The driver Stephen Tibihikira was on Tuesday this week charged with reckless driving and remanded to Mambugu government prison until March 26, 2024.

In the wake of new developments to the incident, the Kagadi district CID Office has summoned Gad Benda Ntegyerize to assist police in its investigations as police has also preferred charges of inciting violence against him.

He has been given up to March11, 2024 to report to the office of the district CID Kagadi for questioning.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday evening at Kagadi CPS, the district CID Officer Resty Maanda says Benda was jointly summoned with other six ring leaders of the demonstration whom she declined to identify for fear of jeopardizing the investigations.

She advises the suspects to be cooperative in the investigation exercise.

Manda further confirms that 17 people who were arrested during the protests were all released on bond.
