Unknown gunmen have robbed 4.7 Million Shillings from a businessman in Kagadi District.
The victim is Andrew Kaahwa 38, a resident of Mambugu cell in Kagadi town council, who operates a wholesale shop along Kagadi Market Street.
It is alleged that the gunmen waylaid Kaahwa on Monday at around 8 p.m. as he and his wife Sarah Kobusinge were returning home from their shop.
Information obtained by Uganda Radio Network indicates that as Kaahwa and his wife approached their compound, three men armed with a gun emerged from a nearby cassava garden and placed them at gunpoint.
The thugs ordered their victims to surrender to them all the money they had in their possession.
According to Kaahwa, fearing for his life and that of his wife, he handed over a bag containing the money to the thugs adding that the thugs also made off with his mobile phone. The thugs reportedly fired several bullets in the air as they fled the area.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says, the hunt for the suspects is on adding that a team of flying squad operatives has been dispatched to the area to pursue the thugs.
He says some cartridges were recovered from the crime scene which will help them in conducting investigations.
In the past. there have been several cases of gunmen attacking business people.
In October 2023, Unknown gunmen robbed 4 million Shillings from a businesswoman in Kagadi District. The victim was identified as Evarce Kutusa Nyabwana 41, was a resident of Mabaale who operated a hardware shop in Mabaale town council.
The gunmen waylaid their victim at around 8 p.m. as she was returning home from her shop. They reportedly grabbed her bag that contained money and fired several bullets in the air as they fled the area.
In September 2023, two armed robbers attacked Nankulabye village in Kagadi town council and shot abusinesswoman.
The victim identified as Stella Komuhimbwa 24 was shot and injured on her thigh. She was reportedly shot as she was returning home from her hardware shop in Kagadi town council.
The thugs grabbed a bag containing eight million Shillings from the victim and fled. She later sounded an alarm that attracted area residents who rushed to their rescue.
