The Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah has expressed concern on the slow pace at which the Bunyoro University taskforce committee is doing its work to operationalize the much waited Bunyoro public university.

Nabbanja was today addressing a joint meeting of Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus and Bunyoro University taskforce committee at her office in Kampala.

Nabbanja says that the University Taskforce diverted from its main mandate leading to the delay to operationalize the university yet this is a thorn in throat of all leaders in the region.

The premier says that there is no reason as to why Bunyoro University has failed to start because the location was agreed upon in 2022.

The minister for Finance, planning and economic development Matia Kasaija emphasized the need to have the university headquarters at Bulera Core PTC because of its centrality and the already existing structures.

Members of parliament expressed concern on the delay to kick start the university.

Prof Samuel Kyamanywa, the Chairperson taskforce for the establishment of Bunyoro Public University says that On the advice of the ministry of education and sports, they engaged the ministry of lands to establish the best suited site for the location of the university and the process had taken long.

Gilbert Kermundu, the chief government valuer told the Bunyoro parliamentary caucus that they will go by the resolutions of the Caucus to have the University headquarters at Bulera.

Meanwhile, Prof. Kyamanywa briefed the meeting that they have already developed 9 academic programmes that will be offered at the university and already submitted to the national council of higher education.

The Bunyoro University taskforce has been given an ultimatum of 2 weeks to have all pending issues of location and submission of academic programmes to the national council of higher education to have the university coded.

The University intends to promote work integrated learning and on the job training through transformative rural and urban development.

President Yoweri Museveni authorized the start of a public university in Bunyoro and the University Taskforce was inaugurated in August 2022.
