Local leaders and residents in Hoima West City Division have demanded for rehabilitation of the poor roads and fixing of damaged bridges since rain has stopped.
The residents and local leaders claim that Hoima city council leaders have been using rain as an excuse to delay to rehabilitate roads in poor state and fixing bridges which were washed away due to heavy rains.
George Kirya, the councilor representing Kibingo ward in Hoima West Division expressed concern over delayed fixing of a broken bridge at Wambabya River.
This bridge connects Kasanga and Ruyanja villages in Kibingo ward, Hoima west city division and the bridge was washed away by running water two in Octobers last year but update it has not been fixed leaving people who cross this bridge stuck.
Kirya adds that the residents have been demanding for fixing of the bridge since last year but Hoima city council leaders have been promising to work on them during the dry season.
He says rains stopped in December last year, adding that it is almost two month having sunshine but city leaders have not responded to the crisis.
John Tumusiime, a resident of Ruyanja village says the delayed fixing of the bridge is affecting their business because they are unable to cross from one village to another.
He notes that the challenge is hindering residents from accessing social services such as health facilities, markets and their business premises.
In response, Brian Kaboyo the Hoima City Mayor calls on the residents to remain calm saying roads and the broken bridges will soon be fixed.
On the issue of the bridge at Wambabya River, Kaboyo says the government recently released Sh500 million out of Sh1 billion saying they expect works to start in the next one week.
