Farmers in Bunyoro region have been implored to increasingly embrace the use of organic fertilizers in a bid to boost crop production and ensure environmental safety.

Organic fertilizers are processed through the use of natural matter like animal and bird droppings among others and according to Shadrack Namunyu, an agronomist working with SR Afro chicks and breeders limited says have no effect of soil ecosystems and biodiversity.

Namunyu says organic fertilizers rejuvenate soils which he says farmers have overused lately and organic matter feed the soils which in turn feed the plants in the garden.

Vincent Barongo an extension worker attached to Hoima district local government says the use of organic fertilizers reduces environment degradation where farmers such for fertile soils in forest hence minimizing climate change effects.

Barongo says the organic fertilizers hold water in the soil and release fertility sustainably while maintaining the soil PH in the garden.

The agronomist says production of health foods is made possible through the use of organic fertilizers because it supports the insect and animal life underground which aerate the soils.

The experts delved the remarks during the launch of SR Organic fertilizers at Hoima youth center, Hoima district local government headquarters Kasingo on Monday.

The SR Organic fertilizers are a product of poultry droppings produced and supplied by SR Afro chicks and breeders limited.
