The police in Kikuube are hunting for yet unidentified individuals who allegedly waylaid,raped and strangled a woman to death.
The victim has been identified as Annet Kusemererwa 36, a resident of Kyabatalya cell in Kyabatalya ward in Buhimba town council. The incident on Monday night at around 10 p.m.
Information obtained by Uganda Radio Network-URN indicates that the deceased was waylaid by her killers as she was heading home from Buhimba trading center. The assailants reportedly gang raped her and later strangled her.
She was discovered by passersby lying unconscious by the road side who picked and rushed her to Shalom medical center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Godfrey Kutegeka, a relative to the deceased says, the deceased left home at around 7 p.m on Monday saying she was heading to Buimba trading center but they were shocked when they received information that she had been killed.
Suzan Kabasindi, the female Councilor for Buhima town council has appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure that the suspects are apprehended and charged accordingly.
Ibrahim Musa Mugisa, the Buhimba town Council LCIII Chairperson has decried the high rate of criminality in his area tasking security to intensify patrols. He has condemned how the deceased was brutally killed.
He says the leadership of the area will team up with the police to pursue the killers.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says, the deceased’s lifeless body was later picked up by the police who conveyed it to Kikuube Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
Hakiza explained that the postmortem report showed that the woman was gang raped before being strangled.
Hakiza said police had commenced a search for the suspects responsible for the brutal murder appealing to members of the public to collaborate with the police by providing crucial information that could facilitate the arrest and detention of the culprits.
The deceased’s body has been handed over to her relatives for burial arrangements.
In September 2023, a 40-year-old woman was gang raped before she was strangled to death. The victim was then identified as Provia Ninsiima, 40, a resident of Rwenkobe village in Kaseeta parish, Kabwoya sub-county.
Reports then suggested that the deceased disappeared from her home under unclear circumstances. The local community later initiated a search for Ninsiima as soon as her disappearance was noticed.
They promptly alerted the police, who joined forces with concerned residents to locate the missing individual. The deceased’s lifeless body was discovered on lying within a sugar cane plantation in the same village.
The victim’s lifeless body was then retrieved by police who conveyed it to Kikuube Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
The postmortem report showed that the woman was gang raped before being strangled to death.
