Sunday Odongo, a private guard attached to Samurai security company group is in detention at Masindi Central Police Station for allegedly shooting a civilian. The incident occurred at Oil Energy pump fuel station in Kijura cell in Masindi Municipality at around 8 pm on Sunday.
It is alleged that Odongo, who was on duty, got into a dispute with the conductor of an omnibus taxi registration number UBN 352N for allegedly loading passengers at the station. Odongo shot into the air to scare away the conductor and the passengers.
However, a stray bullet hit a man who happened to be passing by. The identity of the victim, who sustained an injury to his leg is yet to be established. The gunshot victim was rushed to Masindi General Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his severe wounds.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson, says that the police promptly responded to the crime scene and apprehended the security guard. He was dragged to Masindi Central Police Station where he is facing charges of causing injury.
