Communities in the Albertine region have been challenged to observe traffic rules as Bunyoro’s oil critical roads near completion.
The current construction of critical oil road projects started in 2019 after the government contracted China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) to implement the project at a cost of Sh500 billion.
CRSG is tarmacking 25-kilometer Hohwa-Nyairongo-Kyarushesha-Butole Road, Kabaale-Kiziranfumbi road (25kms) and the 47-kilometer Masindi-Biiso Road.
Ambrose Atwine, the public relation officer CRSG says despite the challenges affecting the progress of the project, the contractor has a few works to complete the project.
He notes that the project progress currently stands at 89.6% adding that within five months, they will have completed and handed over the project to the government.
Atwine adds that they have so far completed the Hohwa-Nyairongo-Kyarushesha-Butole Road adding that serious work has remained at Masindi-Biiso Road and Kabaale-Kiziranfumbi roads but the contractor is finalizing.
He says the project was supposed to last for two years but because of the COVID-19 challenges, the government extended the project time frame.
Julius Hakiiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says as the roads near completion, there is need for the road users to observe traffic rules to reduce accidents.
He notes that traffic police has registered a high number of accident cases since the tarmacking of different roads in the region that he attributes to reckless driving and riding, over speeding and non-compliance to traffic rules.
