The Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) director of investments Emmanuel Ewaku Aliyo is on the spot for allegedly grabbing church land in Masindi. The land in question belongs to Nyantonzi Catholic Parish measuring 3 acres.
The Parish Priest for Nyantonzi Catholic Parish, Rev. Father Simon Kamese told our reporter that the church hired someone to harvest trees in the church compound to facilitate the construction of the quarters of the priests but Aliyo ordered police to arrest him. The incident happened on Thursday last week.
Kamese and a team who stormed Masindi Central Police Station on Tuesday morning protesting against the arrest of their colleague accused the Nyantonzi village chairman Yidri Boazof conniving with Aliyo to grab the church land.
The parish priest also accused the OWC boss of ordering a group of people to slash down the church banana plantation on the contested three-acre piece of land.
The church has also filed a case of malicious damage at vide 03/17/09/2023 at Masindi Central Police Station.
When contacted, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyantonzi Village, Yidri Boaz insists that the land belongs to Aliyo adding that he has genuine documents of the land transaction.
Aliyo has also told our reporter that he bought the contested piece of land in 2014 from the Kalibala family who have been occupying the land for over 50 years.
He adds that there are few individuals who want to grab the church land for their own benefit in the names of the church.
