The suspension of World Bank funding to Uganda will have no impacts on the ongoing oil and gas development in the Albertine region, according to the Petroleum Authority Uganda- PAU.
Earnest Rubondo, the Executive Director PAU says Uganda’s oil and gas developments will continue despite World Bank’s support suspension to Uganda.
There have been fears that the suspension would have an effect of the oil sector but Rubondo has rubbished the fears saying Uganda’ oil and gas developments are funded by private investors.
He also reiterates government’s commitment to have the first drop oil in Uganda by 2025 adding that different infrastructure such construction of Central Processing Facility in Tilenga and Kingfisher projects to facilitate the development are going.
1300 people are currently employed by the Tilenga project adding that over 4000 people will be employed in the area at the peak of the project.
