Five people have been nominated to contest for the Hoima LCV Chairperson seat.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Kadir Kirungi, the former LCV Chairperson in a motor accident in March.
Kirungi, along with his bodyguard, was involved in a collision with a Fuso truck along the Hoima-Kampala Road in Mataagi village, Bukomero town council, Kiboga district.
On March 28th, 2023, the Hoima Chief Administrative Officer officially notified the Electoral Commission about the vacancy, in accordance with the Local Government Act.
As per the act, a by-election must be organized within six months of the occurrence of the vacancy.
The nominated candidates are Uthman Mubarak Kadir Mugisa of the National Resistance Movement-NRM party, Patrick Musinguzi of the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC, Moses Aguda of the National Unity platform-NUP, Lenox Mugume of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party and Vincent Muhumuza Savana who came on independent ticket.
Merab Kasande, the Hoima District Returning Officer said that five candidates were nominated after they presented their required documents to the electoral commission.
She said that the candidates will commence the campaigns from September 1st to September 12th.
Kasande added that training of polling day officials, political parties, and candidates’ agents, as well as the issuance of appointment letters, will start from September 11th to September 12th, 2023.
The roadmap from the electoral commission further indicates that polling will take place on September 14th. Â
