The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Masindi, Emmy Ngabirano together with other leaders have declined to commission 41 desks supplied to two primary schools in Bwijanga Sub County over poor quality.
The desks were supplied to Kihagani Primary School and Kisalizi Primary school, all in Bwijanga Sub County by Exquisite Business Solution and Development Consult (u) Ltd during financial year 2022/2023.
However, after realising that the desks had some defects, Ngabirano refused to commission all 36 desks at Kihagani Primary school and five desks at Kisalizi primary schools sighting rough surface, fake wood that were deformed and tasked the deputy Chief Administrative Office, Emmanuel Awio together with the district engineer, Joseph Sunday to ensure that, the contractor supplies desks of good quality.
He promised to make a follow up on the issue before committing himself to commission the desks at a later date.
The district engineer, Joseph Sunday says he was in touch with the contractor and assured the RDC that the defects observed were real and the contractor will be compelled to rectify them.
On the other hand, the deputy CAO, Emmanuel Awio proposed that all contractors who produce sub-standard works be blacklisted by the district procurement and disposal unit since it leads to wastage of resources and time.
Cosmas Byaruhanga, the LCV chairman says there was no value for money because some of the desks that were supplied by Exquisite Business Solution and Development Consult (u) Ltd were not worth Shs250,000 each.
The RDC however commissioned five other projects that include a two five stance pit latrine at Masindi Centre for the handicapped and Muuro primary school, a two-classroom block at Kihagani primary school, mechanised maintenance of Kyangamoyo-Kaikuku Ntooma road and 41 desks at Kisalizi primary school.
