Minister Nabakooba Halts Land Transactions in Nyabutanzi and Paacwa Sub Counties

The lands minister Judith Nabakoba has directed the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner Lillian Ruteraho to immediately intervene and stop the looming eviction threats, surveying activities and all land transactions on disputed lands in Nyabutanzi and Paacwa Sub Counties.

Minister Nabakoba’s letter dated August 2, 2023 follows a petition presented to her office by the area member of parliament Eric Musana Acaali protesting the looming eviction of occupants in the sub-counties of Paacwa and Nyabutanzi Sub-counties by persons disguising to carryout boundary opening exerise for absent landlords.

Over 10,000 residents from the villages of Kasoga LCI, Kimanya A, B, and C in Nyabutanzi Sub County and Kibooga, Kabwotero, Kasonga, villages in Paacwa Sub County are living under threats of eviction by the absent landlords.

The absent landlords are Annet Namatovu and John Lwanga children to late Biriko Yiga claiming to be the owners of the contested Mailo land measuring 44,442 Hectares on Kasonga Buyaga block 118 plot 22 acquired in 1932.

Following the intervention by the area members of Parliament Eric Musana and Kagadi district Woman MP Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, the lands minister has stopped all evictions and opening of the boundaries of the contested land with immediate effect.

Speaking to the Kagadi RDC Lillian Ruteraho on the development, she confirmed receipt of the minister’s letter rallying residents to remain calm and continue doing their economic activities asserting that no one will evict them.

Ruteraho says minister Nabakooba has directed her together with the commandant of the Police lands protection unit to investigate and give her a report within two weeks for further action.
