Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has banned any processions along major highways and other major public roads during the campaigns for the forthcoming LCV by-election for Hoima district.
Justice Simon Byabakama, the EC Chairperson says with the rising cases of accidents during campaigns, candidates will not be allowed to hold huge processions along highways which are being used by other big trucks and other road users. He adds that night campaigns have also been ruled out during this by-election.
The chairperson also says they have also banned big convoys during the nomination days between August 30-31 2023 at a yet to be designated venue which will strictly be in a district.
He adds that only two cars with a maximum of ten people per vehicle will access the nomination venue for each candidate.
