BKK Petitions Lands Minister over Failure to Access Cultural Sites in Kikuube

The Chief Prince of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom (Okwiri) who is the head of Babito ruling clan Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya has petitioned the state minister for Lands Sam Mayanja protesting the denial by Hoima Sugar LTD to let them access the Kingdom cultural sites in Kikuube.

In his letter dated May 26, 2023 and addressed to the Minister said that Bunyoro Kitara Kindom leased 22 square miles of land to Hoima Sugar Limited but five square miles is categorized as cultural sites.

He noted for several times, he has been sending his officials as head of ruling clan to check on this area and see how to preserve it but security working on behalf of Hoima sugar Ltd blocks them from accessing the area.

In his letter, Rucunya appeals to the Minister to direct the Kikuube Resident District Commissioner who is the head of security to prevail over the police and army deployed in the area who are blocking his team from accessing the area and perform cultural rituals.

He also appealed to the Minister to order Hoima sugar Ltd to appreciate the cultural sites as a property of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.
