Gov’t Embarks on Boundary Demarcation of Wetlands in Kagadi

The Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with Kagadi district local government has kicked off the Physical Wetland demarcation exercise in a move to conserve the marshlands, which are disappearing due to encroachment.

Wilson Mwiranda, the Kagadi district internal security officer while presiding over the launch on behalf of Kagadi district RDC Nicholas Kamukama Kaine challenged residents to embrace this campaign in order to control further encroachment on government wetlands.

The exercise commenced at Hondwa wetland in Kambogo village Kasoga parish Muhorro sub-county. Hondwa wetland covers parts of Muhorro and Kagadi sub-counties.

Daniel Businge the senior Wetlands Officer in the Ministry of Water and Environment explains that that while creating the boundaries 100 meters and 30 meters will respectively be cut off from the land of every person neighboring a wetland following the national wetlands, river banks and Lakeshores Management Act.
